Necessities

LA is expensive, but considering how people in other countries even states live, I really have nothing to complain about.  I was just having a conversation with a friend in my community, I was explaining to her that I love being in the center of the action, but able to be in a community of my choice, and jump into something else if I want to.  She has older kids and she was explaining that in a big city you also have safety issues and she doesn’t feel comfortable letting her kids walk alone to friend’s houses, which is something I haven’t had to face yet.

Real Estate is so expensive in LA, and my husband would love a house, he always looks in other areas where it is much more affordable.  I always tell him that living in a large box in the middle of nowhere is not exciting to me at all.  I have always wanted to be in the middle of it all, no matter where I lived.  Now it’s different, because there are three other opinions to consider J

So when I first moved to LA from Miami over 10 years ago, my “can’t live without” list was

1.       Place to live

2.       Food

3.       Car

Nothing else really mattered, and the interesting thing was that I did not set the bar any higher, and I was comfortably in the place I wanted to be until I met my husband, we got married, and have been happy overall where we live.  He just feels that rent is throwing money away, but we have a great space that has served us well so far.

I am conditioning myself to envision a quality of life for me and my family, where money is a utility, like gas or electricity, when you have it you just live, when you don’t have it, that is when you realize that if you want a certain lifestyle, then it’s a must.  Money is not happiness but when you are already happy, it helps you provide the people you love with beautiful things, events, and experiences.

It’s amazing what different people view as necessities, a car for me is a must, I grew up in Miami, which is a smaller version of LA.  You need a car to get from point A to point B, the public transportation system in both places is average.  I have always liked to have control of when I come and go anywhere.  A month before I gave birth my lease came up, and I have been without a car, which has been ok until now that baby is 3 months and I have a full schedule.  We spent all day car shopping, our electric car is awesome but only gets us so far, so while we were charging at a Nissan Dealer nearby, Thank God the kids slept, and baby and I were hanging while I was writing my blog.
