Every family has its own dynamic, there really is no "norm" of patterns. Sure we all focus on feeding our kids healthy balanced meals, but times, combinations, eating together or snacking, it all depends on ages, cultures, and schedules.
So my kids are huge breakfast eaters, have their lunch at school, and love to snack in between. When they come home, they want snacks, we always have a Friday night dinner for our Day of Rest, other than that, we whip a few things up, sometimes they want it sometimes they don't. Especially my oldest son has gotten pickier about when he wants to eat what. Overall a good appetite, but sometimes he will not be in the mood for what we are serving.
For my clients who want to get leaner, we work together to customize a program that has two shakes, one meal, and snacks every 2-3 hours. Any personal trainer that you go to will explain that snacking every 2-3 hours keeps the metabolism burning body fat.

What is cool is that the shakes are a meal, so you can insert it wherever it fits in your day.
